A SAMANID SLIP-PAINTED BROWN-GLAZED POTTERY BOWL WITH PSEUDO-CALLIGRAPHY Nishapur, Iran, 10th - 11th century Of deep conical shape, resting on a circular foot-ring, the white slip-painted earthenware body covered in a thick and glossy manganese brown glaze, the interior decorated with a band of pseudo-Kufic inscriptions to the centre, and some rosettes and stylised beaded motifs to the cavetto and rim, the exterior plain, 27.5cm diam.
