A COPPER-INLAID INCISED BRASS SAUCER WITH CRESCENT MOONS AND CALLIGRAPHY Possibly Herat or Eastern Iran, 12th century Of shallow rounded shape with twelve sloping facets, rising to a reinforced, chamfered rim, the interior incised and inlaid in copper with a central twelve-pointed star medallion in-filled with a rosette and surrounded by a continuous Kufic epigraphic band, the second twelve-pointed star medallion generating copper-inlaid drop-shaped crescent moon elements in-filled with stylised intertwined vegetal meanders, 14.5cm diam. and 2.5cm high.
