AN ENGRAVED BRASS SELJUK SAUCER WITH KUFIC CALLIGRAPHY Iran, 12th - 13th century Of typical circular shape with a raised rim, resting on a flat plain base, the interior engraved with a central decorative medallion with an interlaced floral arrangement, surrounded by concentric decorative bands featuring elegant Kufic calligraphy against vegetal scrollwork, the exterior engraved with rectangular cartouches featuring a variety of animals, especially dogs, deer and hares, all set against vegetal grounds and interspersed amidst floral roundels, 13cm diam.
