A COBALT BLUE-PAINTED TIMURID-REVIVAL STAR-SHAPED POTTERY TILE Possibly Jerusalem, Holy Land, first half 20th century Of typical eight-pointed star-like shape (khatim sulayman), painted in turquoise, cobalt blue and green with black and red outlines against a slip-covered, reddish earthenware ground, the front replicating a geometric superimposed double eight-pointed star design with flower heads on the points traditionally featured in 15th-century Timurid Iran and Central Asia cuerda seca and haft rang pottery tiles, the reverse plain with seven indented circular marks and an iron magnet bar, 26cm long at the widest points.
