A PARSI REPOUSSÉ SILVER LIDDED BOX WITH ACHAEMENID-REVIVAL MOTIFS Shiraz, Qajar Iran, second half 19th century Of rectangular shape, the sides and hinged lid chased in relief with figural decoration set against a ring-punched ground, featuring typical archaistic motifs reminiscent of Achaemenid stone reliefs of Naqsh-e Rostam and Persepolis in the Fars region, with enthroned rulers, a hero fighting a mythological creature, a procession scene with a chariot at the forefront, and several envoys and attendants carrying offerings and different attributes, the inner rim of the lid stamped on the left-hand-side and a Russian import mark on the outer rim of the base to the right-hand-side, 5cm x 12cm x 8cm, 347gr.
