AN ENGRAVED BRASS SAFAVID-STYLE CANDLESTICK WITH ARCHAISTIC FIGURES Qajar Iran, late 19th century Of typical tapering cylindrical shape, resting on a wide, splayed base and rising to an everted circular rim, the exterior engraved and chased in relief with archaistic Achaemenid-revival figures like kings and envoys in the middle section reminiscent of the stone reliefs of Persepolis and Naqsh-e Rustam, set against a grid of Y-shaped patterns and knot bands, the base and neck with pseudo-thuluth calligraphic cartouches framed within similar decorative bands, 20.4cm high.
