A POLYCHROME-PAINTED LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ LIDDED BOX Qajar Iran, 19th century Of flared cylindrical shape, resting on a flat, circular, red, black, and green-painted base, surmounted by a short, hemispherical, hinged lid with brass chainlets and lock, painted in polychromes, gold, and lacquered, the decorative figural repertoire in line with late Qajar productions but some figures' attires and tall turbans harking back at Zand models, the lid featuring an official announcement scene in a courtly setting with two Qajar princes joining their father on a balcony, underneath them four members of the court on each side attending the momentous event, the base with large, lobed medallions in-filled with typical Qajar hunting scenes, set against a deep red ground with gold stars and encased within stylised floral scrolls, the interior plain, 20.5cm diam. and 18.5cm high.
