TWO KASHMIRI ILLUMINATED RELIGIOUS CALLIGRAPHIC COMPOSITIONS Kashmir, North India, mid to late 19th century Opaque pigments, ink, and gold on paper, comprising a small, square illuminated panel inscribed with the name of Prophet Muhammad in crushed cobalt blue, set against a dense vegetal background in gold and red, 17.5cm x 14.3cm; and another panel, larger and on lined paper, inscribed as well with the name of Prophet Muhammad in reserve, in-filled with the Islamic declaration of faith (shahada), set against a ground of interlocking floral scrolls in polychrome and gold, 22.7cm x 31.7cm.
