THE RAJPUT MAHARAO CHATTAR SAL SEATED ON A HIGH CHAIR Kota, Rajasthan, North-Western India, circa. 1865 -80 Opaque pigments heightened with gold on wove paper, the cropped square-format bust portrait depicting the Rajput Maharao Chattar Sal (also spelt Chhatrasal) seated on a European-style high chair, characterised by an irradiating golden halo and a gold-speckled red turban on his head, embellished with gem-studded sarpech and jiga turban ornaments, several strands of pearl necklaces around his chest and two daggers tucked into the belt worn around his waist in typical Rajput fashion, set within bright yellow and red narrow borders, the reverse plain, 23cm x 25cm.
