A PANEL OF FOUR MULTAN POTTERY CALLIGRAPHIC TILES Sindh, modern-day Pakistan, late 19th century Comprising four square white slip-covered earthenware tiles, painted in cobalt blue, turquoise and antimony yellow, the composition presenting a large floral medallion with Quranic passages and Arabic auspicious blessings in thuluth script reserved against a blue ground, the letter 'SIN' repeated around the yellow calligraphic roundel in the middle delineating the petals of the larger floral medallion, framed within a lush crown of flowers and scrolling foliate stems reserved against a turquoise ground, each individual tile 28cm x 28cm.
