A LARGE MULTAN POTTERY ARCHITECTURAL DOME Punjab or Sindh, modern-day Pakistan, 19th century With an octagonal base, rising to a faceted and curved dome-like structure, possibly once used as the external cover of a small pavilion (now missing its finial) or located on the sides of a larger dome creating a multiplying effect, the white slip-covered earthenware body painted in turquoise, cobalt blue, and green, decorated with traditional Multan pottery motifs including stylised lotus flowers under lobed arches on the petal-like crown in the centre, fleshy palmette leaves against cobalt blue ground to the base, and narrow cobalt blue lines on the indented facets at the top, 24cm diam. (base) and 30.5cm high. Provenance: recently purchased at an antique fair in the UK as part of an Old British Countryside Estate clearance.
