A REVERSE GLASS PAINTING OF BALA KRISHNA WITH A WHITE COW Thanjavur (Tanjore), Tamil Nadu, Southern India, mid to late 19th century Opaque pigments, polychrome enamels, white wash, and gold on glass, the vertical-format composition portraying Lord Krishna as a child (Bala Krishna) standing under a golden and polychrome vegetal arch on solid brown ground, holding a white cow on a leash, blowing into a golden conch shell, one of the main attributes of the Hindu God Vishnu, heavily bejewelled with several strands of rubies, pearls, and emeralds necklaces, and golden armbands and wrist bangles, wearing an elaborate headdress with a peacock feather aigrette, mounted and framed, 65cm x 49.5cm including the frame.
