A PIERCED, INCISED, AND GILT SILVER BOX WITH HINDU DEITIES Northern or Central India, 18th century or later Of octagonal shape, the base and top opening outward, the two hinged lids incised and parcel-gilt, the base panel showcasing the four-armed Hindu Goddess of Knowledge and Wisdom, Saraswati, riding her vahana (vehicle), the peacock, holding three traditional attributes such as a pustaka (booklet), a mala rosary necklace, and her musical instrument, the veena, the top panel depicting a typical Ram Durbar scene with Rama and Sita enthroned, the Monkey God Hanuman washing and drying Rama's feet, and the Vaishnava god's brother, Lakshmana, standing behind the couple with a flywhisk, the sides pierced throughout with floral and cross-like latticework, unmarked, 4cm x 10.5cm x 8.2cm, 227gr.
