A THAI SILVER NIELLO SNUFFBOX AND A PARCEL-GILT NIELLO DRINKING CUP AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Thailand, South East Asia, 19th century Comprising an elongated octagonal Thai silver snuffbox, resting on a flattened base, with a hinged lid at the top with faceted, sloping edges, each side except the base decorated with niello work featuring stylised flower heads surrounded by scrolling, fleshy, serrated foliage, narrow chevron bands around the rim and base, 92gr. and 6.1cm x 4cm; and a small footed lobed cup, with a parcel-gilt nielloed exterior, decorated with vertical floral scrolls and vegetal meanderings, and stylised flame patterns around the rim, 38gr., 7.5cm diam. and 5cm high.
