TWO INDIAN COPPER ALLOY INKWELLS AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON India, 18th century and later Comprising a compressed octagonal inkwell, the top slanted and the base stepped, the lid of dome-like shape, featuring concentric rows of thin dotted bands around the edges, 6.5cm x 9cm; and another of circular shape with scalloped profile, the handle designed as an elephant head, the flattened top incised with a long inscription in two different Indian scripts, possibly Kannada (Dravidian language spoken in Karnataka) and Devanagari (Brahmi script mostly spoken in the Northern regions), the small lid slanted and surmounted by a bulbous finial, 9.5cm x 11cm.
