THREE POLYCHROME-PAINTED CARVED WOODEN ARCHITECTURAL SUPPORT FIGURES OF WINGED APSARAS AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Gujarat, North-Western India, 18th century Comprising three carved wooden figures, painted in polychromes including red, yellow, blue, black and white, possibly once used as architectural supports in an arcade, usually situated above columns or just by the arch spandrels, each presented leaning forward with bent hands, perhaps once carrying offerings or specific attributes, two still holding a rounded ball and an oval seed or tool in their hands, heavily adorned with multi-tiered crowns reminiscent of European specimens, wearing large pairs of floral earrings, several strands of necklaces, and colourful ghagra choli clothes (top and long skirts) embellished with vegetal motifs, flowers, dotted clusters, and geometric patterns, each mounted on a black metal stand, the largest 83.5cm x 52cm including the stand.
