FOUR WOODEN PANELS WITH LARGE PAINTED AND PIERCED IRON DOOR HINGES AND LOCKS AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Possibly Kerala or Karnataka, Southern India, 17th - 18th century The rectangular, modern wooden panels mounted with Indian antique iron door hinges and locks, possibly used in a templar setting or shrine dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva, each iron plaque showing openwork decoration, and residual traces of red, green, and yellow pigments, each hinge designed in the shape of a Shaivite trisula (trident), accompanied by a crescent moon door hoop (except one panel), both symbols associated with the Hindu god Shiva's iconography, the square lock plate pierced in a variety of decorative motifs from heart-shaped leaves to flaming patterns, the largest wooden panel 59cm x 38cm, the largest iron hinge and lock 56.5cm x 36.4cm.
