TWO STAINED GLASS WINDOWS WITH BABY KRISHNA AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Possibly Tamil Nadu, Southern India or England made for the Indian export market, late 19th - 20th century Designed as round arch windows, made of unevenly sized, painted and monochrome stained glass segments, depicting the beloved form of Krishna as a child (Bala Krishna), in the first panel reaching out for a personified version of Garuda, Vishnu's vahana (vehicle), the eagle, under the careful supervision of his foster mother Yashoda, his damaru drum stuck amidst the tree's branches; the latter panel presenting the iconic symbolism of baby Krishna known as Vatapatra Shayi, lying on a Banyan leaf and sucking his toe, floating in the vastness of the primordial cosmic ocean accompanied by the sage Markandeya, the largest window 104cm x 53cm.
