Ɏ MASATAMI: AN IVORY NETSUKE-OKIMONO OF A SAMURAI AND A DEMONESS Ɏ MASATAMI: AN IVORY NETSUKE-OKIMONO OF A SAMURAI AND A DEMONESS By Masatami, signed Masatami 正民 Japan, Tokyo, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912) Carved in a fluid motion, the samurai’s right foot raised and both hands gripping his sword, prepared to strike the sleeping demoness before him. The demoness is depicted seated and reclining against a low table, her eyes shut. Both the samurai's armor and the robes of the female demon are intricately carved and inked. Asymmetrical himotoshi to the underside as well as the signature within an oval reserve MASATAMI. HEIGHT 5.3 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear, few shallow surface scratches, and minor natural age cracks. Provenance: Collection Gabor Orszagh, Budapest, Hungary. Trade Certificate: In accordance with new EU regulations that went into effect in January 2022, we have applied for a certificate to sell this item within the EU. We expect the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology to issue the certificate in 4-8 weeks.
