Raised on a stem foot incised with phoenix above a stippled ground, encircled by a moveable ring issuing four leaves, the bowl decorated with a band depicting a continuous figural scene below crashing waves rising above the rim, the conical cover is cast as a mountain range with mythical beasts and figures, surmounted by a small moveable ring with leaves and a phoenix shaped finial. With calligraphy to the lower area of the body. Provenance: Spanish private collection. Condition: Very good condition with some wear, few small nicks, light scratches, warping, and fine patination. Modeled standing, dressed in rope-tied sandals, and a tight tunic over a shorter garment secured by a belt suspending a long sword, the face with a serene expression below a small, squared cap. Provenance: Austrian private collection. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age as expected from Han dynasty excavations. Small losses, few chips, repairs to the legs, firing cracks, and soil encrustations. The implement in his left hand lost. Weight: 5,168 g Dimensions: Height 59 cm Agriculture was considered the foundation of the Han empire, with canals being dug, fields irrigated and new technologies introduced. Families were moved to the empire's periphery to bring new lands under way and all farming lands were owned by nobles, officials and wealthy merchants who grew very powerful.
