DISEGNO A MATITA SU TELA del pittore russo Alessio Issupoff

PENCIL DRAWING ON CANVAS by Russian painter Aleksej Issupoff. Originally from Vyatka, but trained at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Aleksej Vladimirovic Isupov (1889-1957) favored landscape painting, which only in his mature years would open up to portraits. Arriving in Italy in 1926 for health reasons, he settled in Rome, where he was able to establish himself thanks to an exhibition of paintings at Guido Guida's Galleria Fiamma. When in January 1929 the Scopinich Gallery on Via S. Andrea 8 ordered a one-man show of Issupoff's work, with eighty-one paintings inspired by three places dear to the artist-Russia, Turkestan and Capri, praise rose unanimously: Raul Viviani calls him a very good painter [...] who knows how to draw with much intelligence and color with very sympathetic valentia (r. v.,Mostre milanesi, "Il Giornale dell'Arte," January 13, 1929) while Giovanni Orsini gives Issupoff credit for reconciling the Milanese with the usually mediocre exhibitions of foreigners (Giovanni Orsini,Issupoff - Fini - Nathan - Sbisà, "Il secolo La sera," January 9, 1929). At the close of the exhibition, Issupoff donates the paintingIn the new Sarafanalla Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano. It is the beginning of a success that will be consolidated by subsequent solo exhibitions at Scopinich (in February 1930, April 1931, July 1931, January 1934) and that will open to Issupoff the doors of Milanese and Italian collecting. 20 x 18 cm.
