JAPAN, 18th century, Edo Period (1603 -1868). Samouräi Menpô, half-mask with ferocious expression, deep wrinkles, flared nostrils, open mouth. Forged in steel with dark red lacquer, red lacquered interior. Removable nose plate. The five-bladed yodaregake (gorgerin) in lacquered metal en suite and laced with blue silk braids. In its original condition, never before seen in a collection. (Patina of age and small cracks in the lacquer. Good condition).
