Description

France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Model 1822 light cavalry officer's saber. Gilded brass mounting (remains), with three secondary banks decorated with a long palmette at their base, beaded cap, topped with a dome-button, edged with a laurel leaf frieze and short tail, rosette joint arch and decorated with a few leaves at the top. Beak-shaped top decorated with a seven-petal palmette. Wooden spindle in brass filigree basane. Leather tie present. Beautiful white blade, curved with hollow sides and flat back, without maker's mark or hallmark. Steel scabbard, with one suspension ring and symmetrical stinger, with oxidized white polished finish. 105.5 cm (Blade 92 cm). (In new condition, never previously in collection, wear and tear, needs cleaning. Fairly good condition). Attached is a model 1903/14 troop belt, in brown stitched leather with brass two-bar buckle (slightly shortened, in mint condition).
