Description

France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Artillery officer's saber model 1822/99. Gilt cast brass mounting (remains) with two secondary branches decorated at their base with palmettes, cap with button dome bead and short tail edged with a laurel leaf garland. Handle in brown horn with brass filigree. Guard plate ending in a beak decorated with a 7-branched palmette surmounted by 2 small acanthus leaves arranged in a cross. Tie missing. White blade with nickel-plated finish, slightly curved, with hollow front and flat back, illegible manufacturer's mark on the heel. Steel scabbard with one suspension ring and asymmetrical stinger with stained gray patina. 100.5 cm (Blade 86.5 cm). (Saber restored in the past, basane and watermark later, blade with traces of heating and slightly twisted one centimeter after the heel. As is).
