Description

France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Dérué type" infantry officer's saber from the Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault May 1895. White metal mounting with 4 front arms and 2 counter-guard arms, the underside of the plate chased with floral decoration. Short-tailed beaded cap surmounted by a rivure button dome, figured "EC". Baluster handle in filigree brown horn. Beautiful straight white blade with hollow front and flat back, marked "Mre d'Armes de Chât. - Mai 1895" and on the heel "DEPOSE", partly concealed by the leather tie that is present. Nickel-plated iron scabbard with one suspension ring, oxidized rust bloom in places. 111 cm (Blade 95 cm). (As found, never in collection, frame and scabbard with "yellowed" patina, in need of cleaning. Good condition). Note: These sabers were designed by Colonel Dérué after the defeat of 1870. sabre figure
