Description

Great Britain, late 18th - early 19th century. Pair of flintlock forced-fire travel pistols, "Scottish" models, signed "J & W RICHARDS". Cal. 12 mm approx. All metal parts white with small spots in places. The cases are signed "J & W RICHARDS" in an oval cartouche decorated with flags on one side and chased with a gun trophy and flags on the other side, with a frieze of small geometric motifs around the edges of the cases. The undersides of the frames stamped with crowned "CP" and crowned "V". Flintlock with rear safety. Smooth, round barrels. Retractable triggers. Flat-cheeked walnut teardrop stocks with silver-plated thumb pieces. Mechanism with two clean, functional cocking notches for one, and blocked for the other (the hammer's rear safety is blocked, preventing any movement of the hammer and trigger). Clean inside barrels. 18.5 cm (barrels 5.5 cm). (Wear and age patina. Fairly good condition).
