Description

France, 1st Empire (1804-1814) - Restoration (1814-1830). Nice pair of converted "Canons Tordus" percussion pistols signed "Rey DUMAREST à St Etienne". Cal. 14 mm. All metal parts in their original bronze and blued finish, lightened in places. Smooth octagonal barrels with sights and rear sights, slightly flared at the muzzle. They are blued and marked in gold letters "CANON" "TORDU" on the upper sides, each decorated with a gold damascened thunderbolt line. Marking consisting of numbers, illegible, on each left side panel, partly concealed by the barrel. Transformed flat-body percussion locks signed "Rey Dumarest à St Etienne" and flat-body hammers. Bat-wing cut steel counterplates. Finely checkered walnut stocks with domed steel caps. Finger-rest triggers. Functional, two-notch cocking mechanisms, clean and play-free. Inside of barrels with minor surface oxidation and rust bloom. Rods missing. In their original condition, never previously collected. 28.5 cm (barrels 13 cm). (Wear and age patina. Good condition).
