Description

France, Consulate (1799-1804). Infantry saber called "briquet", AN IX model, composite. One-piece, cast brass mount with 36 grooves, no visible hallmark or maker's mark. Slightly curved blade with small stained gray patina, hollow front and flat back, no visible maker's mark or hallmark. Tie missing. Black leather scabbard with two brass fittings cut into braces and line-decorated on one side, the clevis with small button. 81.5 cm (Blade 68 cm). (As found, never before in a collection, the blade is antique, antique scabbard is antique. As is).
