Description

France, reign of Louis XV (1710-1774). Exceptional long flintlock pommel gun. Cal 14 mm approx. Smooth round barrel in cast brass, with barley grain sight band, chased with fleurs-de-lis, arabesques and, on the thunderbolt, a huntress with hunting body and her dog. Flat-bodied flintlock lock in cast brass, line-decorated around the rim and chased with a small scroll motif and a hunter dressed in Roman style. Flat-bodied swan-neck steel dog, decorated en suite, with cast-brass bassoon. Cut-out and openwork brass counterplate, decorated with a hunter on his mount. Cut-out fittings in cast brass, decorated en suite. Blond molded walnut stock with long shaft ending in a brown horn tip and brass cap with long splints. Blond walnut ramrod with brown horn tip. Functional mechanism with two clear, play-free cocking notches. The inside of the barrel has a small amount of grey-green surface oxidation. 50 cm (barrel 33 cm). (A chip to the wood on the right side of the stock near a splint. Good condition).
