Superb diorama depicting an episode from the Battle of Eylau on February 8, 1807, in which Captain MARBOT is saved by his mare "Lisette". Scale 1/35. The diorama comes with a handwritten note by Henri-G PILLOT, explaining this episode of the battle. 13 x 14 x 11 cm. (Diorama of remarkable craftsmanship, in good condition). Note: Battle of Eylau, February 7-8, 1807. Napoleon caught up with the Russian army at Preussisch-Eylau, in Poland. Over 160,000 soldiers clash in mud and snow. On February 8, 1807, Captain MARBOT, aide-de-camp to Marshal AUGEREAU, was sent on a mission by the Emperor himself, to deliver a message to the battalion commander of the 14th Line, which was about to be annihilated by the enemy, and in return, he was entrusted with the regiment's eagle to save it. On the way back, a Russian artillery cannonball removes the rear horn of MARBOT's hat. Dazed and overwhelmed by Russian grenadiers, it is his mare Lisette who saves him by biting a Russian grenadier in the face who was bayoneting him, and by grabbing an enemy officer in the stomach and killing him....
