Ref 2499/100, important and rare yellow gold perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon phases Brand: Patek Philippe Model: Perpetual Calendar Year: circa 1980 Reference N°: 2499/100 Dial: Argentè with gold baton indices Case N°: 2.779.xxx Movement N°: 869.xxx Movement: Hand winding Cal: 13'' CH Q Material: 18k Yellow gold Strap: Leather with original gold buckle Diameter: 37.5 mm Accessories: Archival extract In 1950, Patek Philippe introduced ref. 2499 to replace its first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch ref. 1518. Early examples of ref. 2499 retained very similar features to ref. 1518, such as applied Arabic numerals and rectangular chronograph pushers for the first series examples. However, the case was completely new, with oversized fluted lugs. The launch of Ref. 2499 remained the only perpetual calendar wristwatch on the market and maintained its status for nearly 3 decades. Total production of the reference was divided into four series, with a total output of 349 pieces in all materials produced until 1985.In 1978, Patek Philippe introduced the fourth and final series of ref. 2499/100 with upgrades such as sapphire crystal. Discontinued in 1985 and replaced by ref. 3970, it is believed that within seven years of production of the fourth series, 120 examples of all materials were produced. Extremely rare, discerning Patek Philippe collectors and vintage enthusiasts consider ref. 2499 to be one of the most perfect wristwatches ever produced, as it retains vintage charm along with practical modern upgrades such as sapphire crystal.The present example, to the best of our knowledge has never appeared on the market and is in excellent overall condition. The case is very well preserved with defined fluted lugs and visible punches on the caseband, furthermore, the dial has no defects and the movement has no signs of wear. Accompanied by the Archival Extract confirming its production in 1980, this timepiece will certainly not go unnoticed by the most experienced collectors.
