KOULANGO, Bouna region, northeastern Ivory Coast. Bronze, patina of use. A rare ancient statue of striking modernity, its minimalist, uncluttered sculpture is reminiscent of Cycladic or Anatolian idols. This perfectly mastered synthetic representation of the human figure is part of a limited corpus of Koulango statuary. The figure is represented kneeling, the trunk elongated with two small stylized arms, the triangular head with a smooth face. 1st half of the 20th century. Height: 18.5 cm.
