Large in-8 (25 x 16.2 cm) of 3 ff. n. ch., VI-327 pp. paperback, filled color illustrated cover, modern folder and slipcase. First edition, one of 25 copies on Japon with an additional state of etchings on Hollande. Illustrations include 2 etchings by Lefort after Lossow, 3 color plates, 45 full-page black reproductions and numerous drawings in the text. Spine restored and rebacked, foxing on endpapers and frontispiece, otherwise a fine, uncut copy of this study by one of fashion's foremost historians and iconologists (Colas, no. 1283; Vicaire, III, col. 1091-1092).
