Two minting dies for the reverse of a so-called Batzen from the town of Isny Iron. Round minting area with eagle above a central six-pointed star. In each corner another, smaller star. Coin design revolving with mirror-inverted inscription. With pronounced beards. D. 2.7 cm. L. 3.5 cm - 6.5 cm. Maximilian I (1573-1651) Duke of Bavaria and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire granted the Free Imperial City of Isny the right to mint coins in 1507. The first coins were minted from 1508. The batzen is a silver coin that was widely used in the 16th century, particularly in southern Germany. Its value was roughly equivalent to 16 pfennigs. Cf. Landesmuseum Württemberg, inv. no.
