Two French percussion muskets modified for hunting, 18th and 19th century An infantry rifle M 1777 with smooth bore barrel in 17.5 mm caliber, V rear sight on top, model designation on the tang. Converted percussion lock (lock action defective), on the lock plate maker's inscription "Charleville". Half stock with iron furniture, retaining spring of one barrel ring missing. Length 151 cm. A shortened infantry rifle M 1840(?) with smooth bore barrel in 18.7 mm caliber, percussion lock on the back, maker's inscription "St. Etienne" on the lockplate. Stock with iron furniture. Iron ramrod. Length 111 cm. Both weapons with varying signs of age and use, iron parts patinated, spotted and pitted in places. Condition: III - IV

Some waviness in upper margin. Occasionally somewhat stained. Some pp. with small water stain. Overall in very good condition. French manuscript with 18 hand drawings. Late 18th / early 19th c. Modern half cloth with marbled boards and mounted cover label (somewhat rubbed). - With watermark (lion with sword and initials C.D.L.). - This extraordinary manuscript combines 18 handwritten fables in finely legible and curved script.
