Bound in full marbled brown calf, 5-ribbed spine decorated with gilt fleurons, lavaliere morocco title-piece, red edges (minor binding defects). An important work of scholarship by Jesuit Father Marne, dating back to the Gauls and concluding in 1749, with a strong focus on the city's history in the Middle Ages. It's interesting to see how Belgium was tossed about by wars over 5 consecutive centuries. The book concludes with an essay on the first bishops of Tongeren.
