Description

Jacques Ignace HITTORF and Ludwig ZANTH, Modern architecture in Sicily... Paris, Chez l'auteur, [1826]-1835 1 vol. in-folio: [5] f. 65 p., frontispiece and 75 plates, one double. Some shorter plates in tail mounted on tabs. Very few brown spots, mainly marginal. Restored contemporary binding, green half-calf with 5 replaced false-nerves, blue paper boards rubbed. A logical complement to the previous work, published from 1827 by Hittorf, in the company of Zanth. Following these historical surveys, the duo decided to publish a second work devoted to modern buildings. The work includes numerous facade surveys, building plans and city views. The views of Messina are particularly valuable, as they provide a rare record of the city's condition before its complete destruction in the 1908 earthquake.
