Bound in contemporary full marbled basane, 5-rib spine decorated with gilt fillets (corners dulled, jaws split). First edition of this treatise, to be placed in the period immediately following the great famines of 1769 and 1770. It is closely related to Parmentier's efforts to find alternative sources of flour, and to optimize mill operations. The first part of the work deals with the calculation of hydraulic machines; the second is devoted to the construction of wheat mills and the calculation of their driving elements, as well as the effects of water on them; the third part gives technical rules for calculating gears, feed canals, runners and locks.
