A cased Belgian flintlock pistol, collector's replica in the style of circa 1800, Liège, circa 1980 Smooth bore barrel in 14 mm caliber, with vine engraving on top. Lightly engraved flintlock. The full stock completely carved with vine decoration, brass furniture partly engraved en suite. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Length 42 cm. In a case lined with green velvet, containing a ramrod, cleaning brushes and a powder horn. Dimensions 44.5 x 20.5 x 7 cm. Condition: II

Extremely rare portfolio with photographs of Pillnitz Palace and the gardens in Dresden. The photographs were taken by Ernst Sonntag, who lived in Dresden between 1884 and 1910. The pictures show Pillnitz Palace and the 28-hectare park that surrounds the main buildings and was famous for its botanical attractions from all over the world. The park includes an English garden from the late 18th century with an English pavilion, a Chinese pavilion, a conifer garden and an orangery. The English pavilion, which was built in 1780, is a copy of the Tempietto by Donato Bramante in Rome. In 1804, the Chinese Pavilion was built on the northern edge of the park in authentic Chinese style. Also on display is a replica of the red royal gondola used by Frederick Augustus I to commute between his residence in Dresden, the Royal Palace, and his country estate in Pillnitz. The 660 square meter Palm House was the largest greenhouse in Germany at the time. - Somewhat stained in places. Overall well preserved. Very rare portfolio. With 27 original albumen photographs. Mounted on blueish cardboards with printed captions. The photographs were made by Ernst Sonntag, who has been resident in Dresden between 1884 and 1910. This very rare photograph shows Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) with other members of the expedition and the ship's captain with other crew members during the crossing of Lake Victoria from Fort Florence to Kampala. - The Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition, which finally crossed Africa from south to north, was led by former American President Theodore Roosevelt and financed by the Smithsonian Institution. The group was led by the legendary hunter and tracker Richard John Cuninghame. Other expedition members included Australian sharpshooter Leslie Tarlton, three American naturalists, Edgar Alexander Mearns, a retired US Army surgeon, taxidermist Edmund Heller from Stanford University and mammalogist John Alden Loring, as well as Roosevelt's 19-year-old son Kermit. The expedition led via Mombasa, British East Africa (Kenya) to the Belgian Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and along the Nile to Khartoum in Sudan.
