A sabre for members of the Guard Field Artillery, circa 1900 Property piece. Slightly curved, nickel-plated single-edged blade without maker, rich decorative etching on both sides, with the inscription "Garde Feld Artill.Regt.", the Guard star and a maneuver scene on a blued background. Knuckle-bow hilt (somewhat loose) with nickel silver grip frame, iron grip back (pitted) and sharkskin grip with simple wire winding (loose). Slightly damaged in places, signs of age. Length 101 cm. Zwischen 1909 und 1919 entstanden unter ihm 22 Luftschiffe. - Photos jeweils mit kl. Beschädigung an einem oberen Eck, sonst insg. gut erhalten. Collection of 6 early orig. photographs of a Parseval airship. Vintages. Silver gelatin prints. - Showing the airship with a gathering of people in a field, in the sky and shots of the gondola. - The Parseval airships were developed by the German designer August von Parseval (1861-1942). Between 1909 and 1919 he built 22 airships. - Photos each with small damage at one upper corner, otherwise generally well preserved.

James Madison: Perpetual War, The Policy of Mr. Madison Booklet by John Lowell (1813) Printed booklet entitled “Perpetual War, The Policy of Mr. Madison. Being a Candid Examination of His Late Message to Congress, So Far as Respects the Following Topicks...Viz. The Pretended Negotiations for Peace...The Important and Interesting Subject of a Conscript Militia...and The Establishment of an Immense Standing Army of Guards and Spies, Under the Name of a Local Volunteer Force...By a New England Farmer,” printed in 1813 by Chester Stebbins in Boston, Massachusetts, 78 pages, 5.25 x 8.5, written by John Lowell (1769-1840), a Massachusetts lawyer, agriculturist, philanthropist, and a well-known Federalist. The cover bears ink ownership notations. In very good to fine condition, with a missing lower right corner to last page. An uncommon booklet that critiques President James Madison’s policies during the War of 1812, with a particular focus on what Lowell perceived as Madison’s inclination toward continuous conflict. The author argues against Madison’s approach to foreign policy and military engagement, suggesting that it would lead to an endless state of war. A noteworthy piece of political literature from the early 19th century that reflects the intense debates and controversies of the time.

Marshall Field III Document Signed Investment banker, publisher, and business leader (1893-1956) who inherited the Marshall Field department store fortune and founded the Chicago Sun newspaper. Partly-printed DS, one page, 8.5 x 6.75, September 28, 1943. Transfer document for a $10,000 certificate of the "State of New York Loan for Highway Improvement," signed in fountain pen by George Richardson and Marshall Field III. Impressively cloth-matted and framed with the certificate, a portrait, and plaque to an overall size of 33 x 27.75. In fine condition.
