Description
A Damascus sword for officers of the Prussian army, 2nd half of the 19th century Sturdy, straight single-edged blade (stained, slightly chipped) with a double-edged central point, stamped "F.H" at the base and etched "Eisenhauer Damascus steel" on a gold background. Non-ferrous metal hilt of an old-style sword with kidney-shaped guard plates and finger hooks (quillons broken off, wire winding missing), overlaid with contemporary screw-fastened hilt parts (three thirds clasps with "cat's paws") of a cuirassier's sword. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age. Length 98.5 cm. Highly interesting example of an individual officer's weapon with a field-modified hilt. Condition: III
