A cavalry sword 89 for members of the Leib Dragoon Regiment (2nd Grand Ducal Hessian) No. 24 Nickel-plated single-edged blade stamped "W.K & C" beneath a king's head and knight's helmet, richly etched on both sides with the regimental name "Großh. Hess. Drag. Regt. (Leib-Drag. Regt.) No. 24." on the obverse, the crowned ruler's cipher "NII" on the reverse. Nickel-plated iron basket hilt, the Hessian lion in the guard plate, rubber grip (inconspicuous defects at the ends). Black lacquered iron scabbard (rubbed) with a fixed suspension ring and riding loop. Signs of wear and age. Length 100 cm. Very rare. Tsar Nicholas II of Russia was regimental commander from 1896 to 1914. His wife was a Princess of Hesse-Darmstadt. Condition: II
