A crest helmet for members of the Baden cavalry, circa 1840 High skull of coarse black leather (two halves, stitched at the crown) with gilt brass mountings (rubbed), attached green backed peak (front seam open). A griffin emblem in fine relief beneath a crown on the front, an "R" in relief on the oval shield. High, screwed comb with black horsehair trim. Leather-backed chinscales (central straps missing) on circular iron rosettes (probably replaced during the period of wear). Fine black leather flap lining (missing parts), the Baden coat of arms embossed under the front peak. Some fastening elements are missing or have been replaced. Partially damaged, signs of wear and age. Rare. Probably the helmet of a militia (Rastatt?) after the pattern of the Baden dragoon helmet. Condition: III

Maître de "Los Santos Juanes" (Actif en Castille entre 1525- 1550) École gothique médiévale espagnole du XVe siècle. Monumental oil on panel measuring 145 x 95 cm in outstanding state of conservation and polychrome of origin, the scene with which this work delights us represents the painting depicts Pope St. Gregory the Great, when in the year 590 an epidemic of plague was declared in Rome, which caused numerous deaths. For this reason the Pontiff organized a great procession. Arriving at the Bridge of Helium (today the Bridge of Sant'Angelo), in front of the Castellum Crescentii (ancient mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian), the miracle took place. Pope Gregory looked towards the top of the castle, and there he observed the great figure of the archangel St. Michael, sheathing his sword, who welcomes them, very possibly being a commemorative commission from the Archbishopric to the master from Palencia to decorate a newly built church or cathedral. Im Folgeschritt wird die Papierunterlage des Abzuges abgerieben, sodass nur die transparente Emulsion zurückbleib. Im Anschluss wurde die Arbeit rückseitig dann von Hand in Ölfarben koloriert. Crysstoleen waren zwischen den 1880er - 1910er Jahren sehr beliebt. - Edouard Bisson war ein französischer Maler des Fin de Siècle. Er ist vor allem für seine ätherischen Frauendarstellungen bekannt, bei denen er sich auf die Überhöhung einer stilisierten Form weiblicher Schönheit konzentrierte und die stillistisch stark an die Präraffaeliten erinnern. Bisson stellte merhmals im Pariser Salon aus und gewann 1900 die Bronzemedaille auf der Weltausstellung. - Auf dem Glas punktuell mit wenigen und oberflächlichen Kratzern. Insgesamt gut. Crystoleum on convex glass plate. Signed. Framed in a frame of the time. - In the Crystoleum technique, an albumen print is glued to the inside of a convex glass plate. In the following step, the paper backing of the print is rubbed off so that only the transparent emulsion remains. The work was then coloured on the reverse side by hand in oil paints. - Edouard Bisson was a French painter of the Fin de Siècle. He is best known for his ethereal depictions of women, in which he concentrated on the exaggeration of a stylised form of female beauty and which are strongly reminiscent of the Pre-Raphaelites in terms of stillness. - On the glass with few and superficial scratches in spots. Overall well preserved.
