A lion's head sabre for officers of the hussars, mid-18th century Heavy, slightly curved single-edged blade (somewhat shortened), fullers on both sides, double-edged point, the crowned double-headed eagle etched on both sides at the base of the blade, the maker's mark "Weiz" (later?) on the back of the blade. Brass knuckle-bow hilt with lion's head grip cap, brown leather-covered grip with decorative rivets on both sides. Comes with a black leather-covered scabbard with a wooden core and rich brass mountings, the lower end of the locket made of iron, two movable suspension rings. Signs of wear and age. Length 94 cm.
