Description

A cuirass for mounted troops, mid-18th century Heavy, blackened, centrally ridged iron breastplate (rubbed, traces of rust). Two elongated holes on the sides and two iron buckles on top for the fastening straps that ran across the back. Two shallow dents next to the central ridge. The edges with original leather padding all around. The inside with lining of natural-colored linen, with several black stamps on it. Slightly damaged in places, signs of use and age, old repairs. Height approx. 42 cm. The lack of a back plate was typical for Austria, as injuries to the back were considered dishonorable. Comes with an expertise from 1975. Condition: II
