A steel helmet with British emblem, 1st half of the 20th century Smooth, one-piece Portuguese-style skull made of brown lacquered steel (dents), with the non-ferrous metal emblem of the British Middlesex Regiment on the front. Brown leather sweatband, beige felt lining, chinstrap missing. Slightly damaged, signs of age. Rare. Portugal was allied with England. Condition: II -

They contain both European and non-European species, with a predominance of ducks and chickens. Among others, a hawfinch, a collared francolin, spoonbills, Persian sandgrouse and tufted ducks are depicted. The birds are mostly shown in their natural environment, with some sheets also depicting the clutch of eggs. Some of the drawings appear to have been inspired by the work "A History of British Birds" by Rev. F.O. Morris, first published between 1851-1857. Morris. - With traces of earlier mounting on verso. Some mounted on backing paper. Some inconspicuous browning in margins and occasional minor brownstaining. Overall a very well-preserved and varied collection.
