Description

A small sword for a high officer or court official, 2nd Empire Fluted triangular blade (darkened, somewhat stained), the maker's etching "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal" at the base. Beautifully gilded non-ferrous metal knuckle-bow hilt in rich relief with a leather-covered, wire-wrapped grip, the eagle on a lightning bundle on the obverse side of the guard plate. Black leather scabbard (leather cracked, rubbed, partially blackened) with gilt non-ferrous metal mountings, a carrying knob decorated en suite on the locket. Signs of use and age. Length 91 cm. Condition: II
