Alexandre Victoire de Lassus - Mourning for Napoleon, dated 1831 Oil on canvas, signed and dated "Lassus 1831" lower left, with a French soldier decorated with the Legion of Honor seated in the foreground in a pensive pose, leaning against the mourning architecture, with the date "5 May 1821" (the anniversary of Napoleon's death) and an antique vase with a list of battle sites. In an older profile frame with palmette decoration (gilding refreshed). Partially slightly damaged, traces of age. Image dimensions 56 x 43 cm, frame dimensions 66 x 53 cm. According to Thieme Becker, vol. XXII, p. 410, Alexandre Victoire de Lassus was born in 1781, was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David and became known for his history and genre paintings. He died after 1830. Condition: II
