Description

A pair of German arm defenses from a suit of armour, assembled from 16th century components Large pauldrons of five articulated lames with six fullers. High flanges along the top on both sides, the rear panels in openwork. A row of lining holes around the edge. Open rerebraces, large couters with triple fluting, edged with finely turned and roped flanges. The closed vambraces opening on a hinge. One interior has been lost, the surviving piece decorated with lozenge-shaped perforations. Individual pieces are slightly deformed, the leather lining and rivets damaged in places. The surfaces with a dark age patina and filmed with oil, in need of cleaning. Length of each circa 70 cm. Provenance: Formerly in the Collection from the Royal House of Hanover at Schloss Marienburg. Condition: II - III
