One icon with four feast days, one icon fitting with two image fields and four drilled holes for mounting, one icon with Saints Boris and Gleb, one icon with Christ's descent into Hades and two icons with the guardian angel and the monastery founders Zosima and Sawatii. Dargestellt ist Jesus Christus am Kreuz, zu Füßen einer der Apostel, der ihn beweint. - Das Gemälde veorten wir in der deutschen Schule der 1. Hälfte des 19. Jh. Oil on canvas. - The canvas is doubled. Partially with slight craquelure. Firnis somewhat yellowed. Overall good. - Jesus Christ is depicted on the cross, with one of the apostles weeping at his feet. - We locate the painting in the German school of the first half of the 19th century.

Russian Orthodox icon The Intercession of the Theotokos, or the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, hand-painted in egg tempera and gold leaf on a gessoed wood panel. In its upper part the icon depicts the Virgin Mary surrounded by a luminous aureole. In her outstretched arms she holds a veil, which symbolizes the protection of her intercession. To either side of her stand numerous saints and angels: the apostles, John the Baptist, St. Nicholas of Myra, etc. Below, center, are St. Romanos the Melodist and his choir attended by the Emperor Leo the Wise together with the Empress and the Patriarch of Constantinople. Stamped verso: Jackson’s International Specialists in Russian Icons, with an emblem depicting George the Victorious slaying the dragon. Late 18th or early 19th century. Dimensions: 15 3/4 x 14 1/2 in., (40.5 x 37 cm.) The icon is in excellent condition. No scratches, chips, or losses. Expected signs of age and wear.
